It has been reported that Meghan Markle is not in contact with her father-in-law, King Charles. Kate Mansey shared in The Times on Friday that the Duchess of Sussex has “no communication with the King and Queen,” while discussing Prince Harry’s ongoing legal battle regarding the removal of his UK security.
Mansey explained that the rift between the monarchy and Prince Harry will not be resolved until his case is addressed. She wrote: “Harry’s decision to sue the King’s government in the King’s courts is the sticking point, I am told. Harry is challenging a decision made by Ravec, the Royal and VIP Executive Committee, which determines security provisions for the royal family and other VIPs. The royal household is represented on this committee and would have been involved in the decision to remove Harry’s automatic right to police protection in Britain.”
She continued: “It places the King in a difficult position because Harry has been granted leave to appeal. Until the case is resolved, there is little Charles feels he can say to his son. As for Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, there is no communication with the King and Queen.”
Before the Sussexes left the UK, Meghan and King Charles shared a close bond, with Charles walking Meghan down the aisle during her royal wedding to Harry in 2018.
In his memoir Spare, Harry revealed that shortly after the wedding, he and Meghan spent time with Charles in Scotland. He shared that the relationship between Meghan and Charles grew even stronger during that visit.
“One night, over pre-dinner cocktails, Fred Astaire playing in the background, it emerged that Meg shared a birthdate with Pa’s favourite person: Gan-Gan. August 4,” Harry wrote.
“Gan-Gan” was the affectionate name for Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. Harry recalled that Charles was buoyant after hearing the coincidence, telling stories and entertaining Meghan.
