Eddie Jordan, the 76-year-old former Formula 1 team owner and pundit, has shared his personal struggle with prostate and bladder cancer, which has aggressively spread to his spine and pelvis in recent months.
Speaking on his Formula For Success podcast, co-hosted with David Coulthard, Jordan revealed the details of his diagnosis and urged listeners to prioritize regular health checkups.
“We’ve mentioned it before, David, but back in March and April, I was diagnosed with bladder and prostate cancer,” Jordan explained. “It then spread to my spine and pelvis, and it was quite aggressive.”
He stressed the importance of early detection and self-care, saying, “Don’t wait or delay. Get tested because there are so many options available that can extend your life. Don’t be foolish or shy—take care of your body.”
Despite facing “some very dark days,” Jordan expressed gratitude for his recovery, stating, “We pulled through, thankfully.”
Jordan, a prominent figure in motorsport, owned the Jordan Grand Prix team from 1991 to 2005, where he helped launch Michael Schumacher’s F1 career. The team’s most notable achievement came in 1998, when Damon Hill and Ralf Schumacher finished 1-2 at the Belgian Grand Prix. Jordan later transitioned into broadcasting, becoming a regular on BBC Sport, Channel 4, and Sky Sports since 2009.
In recognition of his contributions to charity and motorsport, Jordan was awarded an honorary OBE in 2012. He also joined Top Gear in 2016.
Encouraging others to stay positive, Jordan said, “I’m coming out the other side. Everyone can. The prognosis is fantastic, and the advancements in medical knowledge are simply amazing.”
