A Nigerian woman, Wuraola Surajudeen, has petitioned an Area Court in Ilorin, Kwara State, to dissolve her marriage just two weeks after her wedding, citing a “lack of love and affection” for her husband, Surajudeen Iya-Onitasi.

During the hearing, Wuraola revealed that she had been previously married but divorced her former husband due to pressure from her mother.

“My former husband became a religious fanatic after our marriage, and my parents were against him. I was introduced to my current husband, and everything seemed fine initially, but immediately after the wedding, I developed hatred for him,” she explained.

The husband, Iya-Onitasi, told the court that Wuraola left their home without his consent, stating she was no longer interested in the marriage. He added that he had attempted to consummate the marriage on several occasions but respected her refusal.

“I want her to refund the ₦20,000 dowry I paid for her hand in marriage,” he requested.

Presiding Judge Hammed Ajumonbi ordered Wuraola to repay the dowry and adjourned the case to December 4 for the final pronouncement of divorce.
