A 60-year-old man, Sabi’u Yusha’u Unguwa Uku, has tragically died after falling into an abandoned well in Kano State.
According to a statement from the Kano State Fire Service spokesperson, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the deceased was the driver for the wife of the Minister of Defence.
The incident occurred when he dropped some guests off at a nearby house and stepped outside to urinate.
Unaware of the abandoned well in the area, the man accidentally stepped onto a broken cover, causing him to fall in.
On November 15, 2024, at around 10:35 p.m., the Fire Service was alerted to the emergency by one of their staff members. A team quickly responded and arrived at the scene by 10:50 p.m. They found the victim unconscious at the bottom of the well.
He was rescued and transported to Sir Sunusi Specialist Hospital on Hadejia Road, where doctors confirmed his death. The body was later handed over to the Dakata Police Division.
The statement noted that the victim had been unaware of the well and its debris when he stepped on the unstable cover, leading to the fatal accident.
