Lebraity Makuni, a 28-year-old pastor from Praise and Worship Centre Assembly in Zimbabwe, has been arrested for allegedly staging an armed robbery to cover up a scam involving a congregant.
Makuni initially reported to police that he was robbed of $7,500 and various valuables at his Chitungwiza home.
However, investigations later exposed that the pastor had fabricated the incident to hide a failed financial scheme.
Authorities revealed that Pastor Makuni received $3,000 and a Techno cellphone from a congregant, promising to supply maize for their poultry business.
When he was unable to fulfill the agreement, he allegedly faked the robbery to evade responsibility.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed Makuni’s arrest for filing a false report.
The pastor was granted bail of $100 and is required to check in weekly with Chitungwiza CID. He is scheduled to appear in court again next week.
