A 28-year-old police constable, Lesego Chuene Phefo, tragically shot his girlfriend and her friend before taking his own life.
On the morning of Saturday, November 2, 2024, Phefo, from the Mahikeng POPS, entered a home in Itsoseng, Zone 2, near Lichtenburg, where he found his girlfriend socializing with other men.
In a fit of rage, he drew his firearm and allegedly shot his girlfriend, Tlhalefo Setlhare, and her friend, Vumile Gcuku, multiple times. Both women died at the scene.
A male victim, Mojalefa Rakoma, sustained gunshot wounds and was quickly transported to the hospital.
Constable Phefo was discovered at the scene with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head, along with a firearm near him.
The motive for this tragic incident remains unclear.
The North West Police are actively investigating the case, which involves charges of double murder, attempted murder, and an inquest docket.
