A Kano Shariah Court in Kofar Kudu has ordered the remand of Nasiru Mukhtar for allegedly entering a mosque in the Tudunwada area and assaulting an imam who was leading prayers.
According to the police, the actions of the accused violate Sections 165 and 166 of the State Penal Code.
Mukhtar pleaded not guilty when the charges were presented by the prosecuting counsel, Aliyu Abidin.
Police reported that on October 22, 2024, at around 5 a.m., Mukhtar allegedly entered the mosque, grabbed Imam Malam Murtala Sulaiman by the neck during morning prayers, slapped him, tore his clothing, and seized his microphone.
The imam subsequently filed a complaint with the state police command.
The defense counsel requested bail for Mukhtar, but the court ordered a psychiatric evaluation to assess his mental state. Judge Malam Isah Rabi’u Gaya has remanded Mukhtar in custody and adjourned the case until November 22, 2024.
