Jay Johnston, known for voicing Jimmy Pesto on the beloved animated series “Bob’s Burgers,” has been sentenced to 12 months and one day in federal prison for his role in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot.
His attorney confirmed the sentencing to NBC News on Monday, following Johnston’s guilty plea in July to a charge of obstructing officers during a civil disorder.
Initially facing a potential five-year sentence, Johnston was arrested in California last summer.
Prosecutors presented evidence, including social media posts and text messages in which Johnston allegedly acknowledged being present at the Capitol during the riot.
FBI reports also indicated that Johnston took part in a “group assault” on officers and assisted in carrying a stolen police riot shield out of the building.
The fallout from his actions extended beyond legal repercussions, as Johnston was removed from “Bob’s Burgers” in 2021 after a decade with the series.
