The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has denied issuing a sit-at-home order for October 21 and 22 in any part of South Eastern Nigeria.
The separatist group clarified that it always makes public announcements when declaring such orders and urged the public to disregard directives from individuals they described as criminals attempting to tarnish IPOB’s reputation.
On Monday, October 21, commercial activities in Aba, Abia State, and several other Southeastern states were disrupted after a sit-at-home order was enforced by suspected pro-Biafra groups. Schools, banks, markets, and other businesses remained closed.
In a statement released by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, the group emphasized that it does not enforce sit-at-home orders without a valid cause.
He stated: “IPOB did not order a two-day sit-at-home, and we do not want to cause unnecessary panic over these baseless directives from infiltrators. We chose not to issue a press release regarding these unwarranted orders from infiltrators.”
“IPOB has no habit of threatening Ndigbo. Whenever we declare a sit-at-home, it is always made public. Our people should ignore these harmful orders from criminals working for the government to damage IPOB’s peaceful image.”
