Prosecutors investigating Liam Payne’s death suspect that an employee at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel, where Payne was staying, may have supplied him with drugs prior to his fatal fall.
The former One Direction star tragically fell from a balcony in Buenos Aires last week. Investigators seized various substances from Payne’s hotel room, which suggested prior alcohol and drug use.
“There is evidence that a hotel staff member may have sourced the drugs for Payne,” a source told People, requesting anonymity due to the sensitivity of the case. “An indictment for drug distribution could be issued soon.”
A statement from the prosecutor’s office, obtained by Page Six, indicated that Payne’s death is being investigated as a “suspicious death.” However, current findings suggest Payne was alone when he died, with no signs of foul play or defensive injuries.
Prosecutors are reportedly exploring all possibilities and focusing on identifying those responsible for supplying the drugs found in his room.
Inside Payne’s suite at CasaSur Palermo, officials discovered clonazepam — a medication for treating epilepsy, muscle spasms, or panic disorders — along with whiskey and discarded items.
Buenos Aires Police also informed TMZ that Payne had been under the influence of a powerful drug called “cristal,” known for causing hallucinations and psychotic episodes.
The drug is said to cause extreme mood swings, sometimes leading to aggression, according to officers.
Shortly before Payne’s death, the hotel manager made a frantic 911 call, reporting that a male guest was “high and drunk” and “destroying” his room. The manager expressed concern that Payne, who was still conscious, could be endangering his own life, as he was in a room with a balcony.
However, when asked if police assistance was needed, the manager declined and instead requested ONLY SAME, Argentina’s medical emergency service, to respond.
