VP Kamala Harris Releases Health Report Three Weeks Ahead Of U.S. Presidential Election

Democratic presidential nominee and U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris released a letter from her doctor on Saturday, October 12, just weeks before the U.S. presidential election.

The medical report confirmed that Harris is in good health and fit to hold high office, aiming to draw a distinction between her and her Republican opponent, Donald Trump.

In a memo issued by the White House, Harris’s physician, Dr. Joshua Simmons, stated that her most recent physical examination in April was “unremarkable.” He noted that she maintains an active lifestyle and a “very healthy diet,” despite a busy schedule. Harris suffers from seasonal allergies and occasional hives, does not smoke, and drinks alcohol in moderation.

“She possesses the physical and mental resilience required to effectively carry out the responsibilities of the Presidency, including those of Chief Executive, Head of State, and Commander in Chief,” Simmons wrote.

Harris, 59, is running against the 78-year-old Trump for the presidency. According to a Harris campaign aide, her decision to release her medical records was intended to emphasize Trump’s refusal to do the same.

Her campaign seeks to highlight the age difference between the two candidates, particularly since Trump became the oldest candidate in the race after President Joe Biden, 81, withdrew from the contest following a poor debate performance. By showcasing her relative youth, mental sharpness, and transparency, Harris hopes to convince undecided voters that she is better suited for the role.

Simmons also addressed Harris’s allergies, which are well-controlled with over-the-counter and prescription medications. Her hives, described as “sporadic and transient,” respond to antihistamines and are not linked to any specific triggers. Harris has been undergoing allergen immunotherapy for three years, significantly improving her symptoms.

The report further revealed that Harris wears contact lenses. Although her mother had colon cancer, Harris is current with her preventive health measures, including colonoscopies and annual mammograms, Simmons added.
