Janice Combs, mother of Sean “Diddy” Combs, has publicly defended her son as he faces serious allegations of s*x trafficking, racketeering, and s*xual assault.
In a statement released through her lawyer, Natalie G. Figgers, Janice condemned the public’s treatment of her son before he has had the chance to stand trial.
“It is heartbreaking to see my son judged not based on the truth but rather on a narrative filled with lies,” she stated. “Witnessing what feels like a public lynching of my son before he has had the opportunity to prove his innocence is a pain too great to articulate.”
While supporting her son, Janice acknowledged that he has made mistakes in the past. Referring to footage from a 2016 incident in which Combs was seen on hotel surveillance physically assaulting his then-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, she said, “I am not here to present my son as perfect because he is not. He has made mistakes in his past, as we all have.”
Janice added, “My son may not have been entirely honest about certain matters, such as denying he has ever been violent with an ex-girlfriend when the hotel’s surveillance indicated otherwise.”
One of the most significant legal hurdles facing Combs is a lawsuit filed by his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, last November, in which she accused him of rape, s*x trafficking, and years of physical abuse. Although the lawsuit was settled out of court shortly after being filed, Janice provided insight into why her son may have chosen to settle.
“Sometimes, the truth and a lie become so intertwined that it can be terrifying to admit even a part of the story, especially when that truth is unconventional or too complex to be believed,” she explained.
Janice suggested that this complexity likely influenced her son’s decision to settle the lawsuit.
“This is why I believe my son’s civil legal team opted to settle the ex-girlfriend’s lawsuit rather than contest it to the end, resulting in a ricochet effect where the federal government interpreted this decision as an admission of guilt,” she stated.
As more accusers have emerged, Janice is convinced that many of these allegations are financially motivated.
Regarding the recent claims, she noted, “These individuals saw how quickly my son’s civil legal team settled his ex-girlfriend’s lawsuit, leading them to believe they can get a quick payday by falsely accusing him.”
She also raised concerns about the implications of false allegations: “False accusations of s*xual assault hinder true victims of s*xual violence from obtaining the justice they deserve.”
Janice expressed her frustration over her son’s ongoing legal battle, stating, “Watching the world make jokes and laugh as my son’s life crumbles is something I will never forget. It is truly agonizing to see the world turn against him so quickly and easily based on lies and misconceptions, without ever hearing his side or giving him the opportunity to present it.”
She emphasized the pain this situation has caused her as a mother, witnessing her son face public scrutiny and legal repercussions.
“This injustice has been unbearable for our family. The worst part of this ordeal is watching my beloved son stripped of his dignity, not for what he did, but for what people choose to believe about him.”
Janice remains hopeful that her son will eventually have the chance to clear his name.
In her closing remarks, she asserted, “My son is not the monster they have portrayed him to be, and he deserves the opportunity to share his side. I can only pray that I will live to see him speak his truth and be vindicated.”
