Woman’s Body Recovered From Shark After Being Eaten During Dream Vacation

An American tourist, Colleen Monfore from South Dakota, tragically lost her life after being eaten by a shark while on a dream diving vacation with friends in Indonesia.

Monfore’s body was discovered inside the stomach of a shark after she was swept out to sea by strong currents, according to The Sun.

The 68-year-old had been on a diving trip near Pulau Reong island with six friends when the incident occurred on September 26. Despite efforts by the boat’s guide, they were unable to rescue her from the powerful currents.

The shark was later caught by a fisherman in East Timor on Sunday. The fisherman, noticing the shark was unwell, initially believed it had swallowed plastic or a fishing net.

Upon cutting the shark open, he made the grim discovery of human remains inside.

Local officials confirmed the body was still dressed in a black wetsuit when it was recovered from the shark’s stomach. A disturbing photo from the scene showed the shark split open, with what appeared to be human remains in the background.

Authorities are now investigating the incident. Officials also clarified that East Timor, where the shark was caught, is not part of Indonesia, but a separate country known as Timor-Leste.
