Terrified tourists scrambled for safety as four assailants fatally shot a man outside a luxury five-star resort in Cancun, Mexico.
The victim, a 30-year-old Mexican national, was shot on the beach near Hotel Riu on the morning of October 2. After firing multiple shots, two of the attackers, who had approached on foot, escaped on rented jet skis, while the other two fled on foot.
Guests sought cover as the gunmen carried out the targeted killing, rushing into the $300-a-night hotel lobby as police arrived to the scene where the victim lay on the sand.
Authorities are investigating the incident, considering the possibility that the homicide is linked to drug trafficking or cartel activity.
Footage from the aftermath shows concerned guests wandering through the $1,000-a-night lobby, awaiting instructions from officials. Some were seen in a state of panic, contacting loved ones, screaming, and hurrying to seek shelter with their belongings from the beach.
