The Prince of Wales has contributed the foreword to a memoir written by Lindsey Burrow, widow of rugby legend and motor neurone disease (MND) campaigner Rob Burrow.
Rob, who played for the Leeds Rhinos, passed away in June at the age of 41 after a long battle with MND.
Lindsey’s memoir, titled Take Care: A Memoir of Love, Family & Never Giving Up, is set to be released next week.
In a statement shared on Rob’s official X account, Lindsey expressed her gratitude for Prince William’s involvement: “Take Care will be published on February 27, 2025, and I’m honored to share that the book features a foreword written by HRH Prince William. The memoir is about love, family, and never giving up. I hope it highlights the incredible work of carers in the UK and offers hope to others facing challenges in their lives.” In response, Prince William and Princess Kate reacted with a blue heart emoji.
Following Rob’s passing, Prince William paid tribute to the rugby league “legend” and his work in raising awareness for MND. Rob was diagnosed with the disease two years after retiring from his remarkable rugby career but continued to fight for MND awareness and fundraising efforts.
In January, William surprised Rob and his former teammate Kevin Sinfield by presenting them with their CBEs for their dedication to the cause. Of Rob, the Prince said, “He taught us that in a world full of adversity, we must dare to dream.”
During a visit to Leeds, William met Lindsey Burrow and was reportedly moved by her resilience and positivity in the face of such a difficult situation. The memoir delves into Lindsey’s strength as she balanced her NHS job as a physiotherapist with providing full-time care for Rob, who lost the ability to move, speak, or eat independently. Alongside her caregiving, she also raised their young family and advocated for MND awareness.
After Rob’s death, William said: “He taught us, ‘In a world full of adversity, we must dare to dream.’ Catherine and I send our love to Lindsey, Jackson, Maya, and Macy.” In his earlier visit to Headingley Stadium, the Prince praised Rob and Kevin Sinfield’s remarkable work in raising both funds and awareness for MND.
Rob Burrow spent his entire rugby career with Leeds Rhinos, securing eight Super League titles and representing Great Britain.
