Cross River State: Businessman Arrested For Allegedly Assaulting 1-Year-Old Girl

A businessman was turned over to the police by youths from his community after allegedly r*ping a 1-year-old girl who had been playing with his son.

The incident occurred on September 10, 2024, in Betem, Biase Local Government Area, Cross River State.

The suspect, identified as Mr. Nsikak from Akwa Ibom, allegedly assaulted the girl, the daughter of a tenant who had recently moved into the same compound.

The victim, a 1-year and seven-month-old child, had been playing with Mr. Nsikak’s 7-year-old son when he allegedly lured her to a secluded area and molested her.

Following the incident, as the child was still bleeding, Nsikak reportedly fled to his farm.

When the community youths apprehended him, he allegedly attempted to bribe them to cover up the crime, but they refused and handed him over to the police.

Mr. Nsikak is currently in police custody, while the child has been taken to a cottage hospital in Biase Local Government Area for treatment.
