The King and Queen Camilla presented a united front as they arrived at Crathie Kirk, near Balmoral, on Sunday morning to honor the second anniversary of the late Queen’s death.
The 75-year-old monarch was seated in the back of a Bentley with Queen Camilla, 77, beside him. The royal couple traveled to the Royal Deeside church for an intimate Sunday service, which began at 11:25 a.m.
Despite the solemn occasion, King Charles appeared in good spirits, sharing a smile with his wife as they sat together in the car. Queen Camilla looked regal in a green jacket featuring red and green tartan lapels, paired with a green hat adorned with a feather. She smiled at the gathered photographers, holding her handbag on her lap.
King Charles, wearing a grey jacket with a pink flower pinned to his lapel, was seen adjusting his cuffs as he prepared for the emotional service.
Later today, a special episode of Songs of Praise will air on BBC One at 2:15 p.m. from Crathie Kirk, commemorating the King’s Accession and the second anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s death. The broadcast will feature a new hymn commissioned by the King.
King Charles’ Secluded Summer At Balmoral
Continuing his late mother’s tradition, King Charles has spent the end of summer at Balmoral in the Scottish Highlands, a place where Queen Elizabeth II was said to be “her happiest.” It was at this beloved royal residence that Her Late Majesty passed away peacefully two years ago on this day.
Balmoral, a 50,000-acre estate, held special significance for the Queen, often described as her favorite place on earth. She once referred to it as a “paradise in the Highlands.”
In the ITV documentary Our Queen at Ninety, Princess Eugenie shared how her “Granny” found the greatest joy in the Highlands, and described the time the royal family spent there. The youngest daughter of Prince Andrew reflected on their time together, saying: “Walks, picnics, dogs—a lot of dogs, there’s always dogs—and people coming in and out all the time. It’s a wonderful base for Granny and Grandpa, where we can all visit and just enjoy the space to breathe and run.”
