The renowned music icon, known as the Elegant Stallion, passed away on July 30, 2024, at Reddington Hospital in Ikeja. She collapsed after performing at Dr. Stella Okoli’s birthday celebration. Onwenu was 72 years old.
The family has announced that the funeral service will be held at the Fountain of Life Church in Ilupeju, followed by a private burial at a vault in Ikoyi, according to CKN News.
A funeral flyer indicates that the Service of Songs will take place from 10 AM to 12 PM, with the burial scheduled for 2 PM to 4 PM.
Onyeka Onwenu will be laid to rest today, Friday, August 30, in Lagos.
In a 2021 opinion piece, Onyeka Onwenu expressed her wish for her final arrangements: “Do it quickly, quietly, and privately,” she stated.
She is survived by her two sons.
