Five motorcyclists have died less than an hour apart in the same Derbyshire town.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Three motorcyclists were killed in a collision involving three vehicles on a major road on the A53 between Buxton and Leek at 9.45am yesterday.

Then, BBC News reported, at 10.20am two motorcyclists died at the scene of a crash with a car on the A6, between Buxton and Dove Holes in Derbyshire.

Derbyshire police say they were called to reports of the incident on the A53 – the Buxton to Leek road – at around 9.45am on Sunday morning.

A police statement regarding the first crash said: ‘The collision involved three Ducati motorbikes, a van and a car. 

‘Three motorcyclists, all men in their 50s, were pronounced dead at the scene. Their families are aware and our thoughts with them.

‘The driver of the van, and two people from the car, were also taken to hospital. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening. We are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or who has dashcam footage.’
