Fabio Carvalho has transferred to Brentford from Liverpool in a deal worth an initial £22.5 million, with an additional £5 million possible in add-ons.
According to a statement from Sky Sports on Monday, Liverpool will receive a 17.5 percent sell-on clause as part of the transfer agreement for the 21-year-old attacking midfielder.
Carvalho, who also drew interest from Southampton and Leicester, has signed a five-year contract with Brentford, who have the option to extend for another year.
Brentford manager Thomas Frank commented on the signing: “Fabio is a player with a lot of qualities. He is versatile, capable of playing in various attacking positions within a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 formation.
“His most effective roles are likely as a No. 10 or coming in from the left. Offensively, he has excellent skills, including dribbling, passing, and chance creation. He will bring something unique to our squad, which we have been lacking.”
Carvalho joined Liverpool from Fulham for £5 million in 2022, having been one of Fulham’s standout young talents. At Fulham, he scored 12 goals in 44 appearances, largely in the Championship during their promotion campaign. Fulham secured a 20 percent sell-on clause from the initial transfer, which will be realized from the profit of Carvalho’s move to Brentford.
During his time with Liverpool, Carvalho made 21 appearances and scored three goals. He had a successful loan spell at Hull last season, netting nine goals in 20 Championship games, following a stint at RB Leipzig earlier in the season.
