Tony Varghese who desperately wanted to ‘look younger’ for a a family wedding has urged others to ensure they patch test new products after he ended up in hospitalised suffering a severe allergic reaction to hair dye.

The 42-year-old man from Rainham in Essex, was attending a family wedding in July, when he decided he wanted to dye his hair and beard black in a bid to conceal a few grey hairs.

However, the father-of-two ended up with a nasty shock after he used an at home dye kit on July 24 when on the day of the wedding, his face began to swell dangerously.

DETAILS OF HIS STORY

The night before Tony was due to attend a family wedding in Hitchin in Hertfordshire, his wife, Amber Varghese, 37, helped him to apply a layer of Just For Men hair dye to his face and head in a bid to hide a few grey hairs.

His wife applied the product for him, and then waited five minutes before removing the black dye from his head and beard.

At first, Tony said he was happy with his new colouring and said he dyed his locks to make himself ‘look younger’.

But after attending the two-day wedding, Tony’s face started to swell continuously, forcing him to take an emergency trip to Luton and Dunstable University Hospital.

At the hospital, doctors confirmed he had suffered an allergic reaction to the black hair dye and prescribed him an intensive course of IV steroids and antibiotics.

Tony said he did not carry out a patch test before dying his hair but is now urging others to ensure they do before colouring their own locks.
