Video footage depicts swimmers passing by a woman who tragically drowned in a Las Vegas gym pool without realizing her distress.
According to reports from KLAS, the incident occurred on February 4th at the North Decatur Las Vegas Athletic Club (LVAC), where 58-year-old Letica Triplett entered the pool for morning exercise. She swam and held onto the pool wall for about 25 minutes.
Oganna Brown, an attorney representing LVAC, mentioned that Triplett arrived at the facility on crutches before entering the pool. While gripping the wall, Triplett stopped kicking and appeared to struggle, eventually submerging underwater. She then attempted to reach the pool stairs just a few feet away.
Throughout the ordeal, multiple individuals were seen swimming near her and walking beside her as they entered the pool, seemingly unaware of Triplett’s dire situation. As she tried to climb the pool stairs, Triplett grasped the handrails but fell back into the pool, continuing to struggle with her head underwater.
Triplett remained motionless in the pool for about 10 minutes, with people passing by her without realizing she was unconscious. After approximately 20 minutes from the initial signs of distress, a swimmer in an adjacent pool noticed Triplett’s condition, prompting them to intervene by pulling her out of the water.
Shortly thereafter, an LVAC employee emerged from a nearby locker room and approached the scene with Triplett’s body. Bystanders performed CPR for three minutes until paramedics arrived, but unfortunately, Triplett was pronounced dead shortly after the incident.
The Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) investigation report noted the unique circumstances of Triplett’s death, emphasizing LVAC’s long history of operation without such incidents.
“In 46 years, there has not been a drowning event,” she said. “This is an anomaly, and this was not a direct drowning event. This was a cardiac arrest.”
