Meghan Markle is known for concealing her feet with long garments and stylish, sensible shoes.
However, at the ESPY Awards in California last night, the Duchess of Sussex, 42, made a rare choice to reveal her perfectly manicured toes in strappy black leather sandals. She exuded glamour in a bespoke Oscar de la Renta gown as she supported her husband, Prince Harry, at the event.
When seated, her dress offered a rare glimpse of her feet, which have reportedly been an insecurity for her in the past.
Yet, it was clear Meghan had nothing to worry about as the Celine heels she wore complemented her look perfectly.
In 2020, a videographer who worked with Meghan before she met Prince Harry claimed she had strict rules about not filming her feet and that she “hated” them. Her feet became a topic of conversation after she removed her shoes during a royal tour in New Zealand in 2018, revealing what some thought was a bunion-removal scar.
In his 2022 book “Revenge: Meghan, Harry And The War Between The Windsors,” Thomas Bower claimed Meghan once requested her feet be “fixed” after a photoshoot. He alleged that during post-production of commercials for Reitmans, Canada’s largest women’s clothing retailer, Meghan sent numerous demands about changes to her appearance, including her feet.
She allegedly wrote, “Please fix my feet for me. I get slaughtered online for [sic] people picking apart my feet, sadly.”
This might explain her preference for longer hemlines in recent years. As Meghan and Prince Harry carried out ‘quasi-royal’ duties this year, including their tour of Nigeria and events for the Invictus Games, she often wore trousers, skirts, and dresses that seemed too long for her 5ft 6in frame.
A celebrity style expert suggests that this perceived oversight may actually be a deliberate decision to create a specific illusion, adding to her chic style while covering her feet.
