A 15-year-old in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, India, has been detained by police for confessing to fatally attacking his parents and brother while they slept at midnight.
The motive behind the gruesome act, which took place in Kusumhikala village under Nandganj Police Station on the night of July 7-8, reportedly stems from his parents’ opposition to his relationship with a girl he had been in love with for two years.
According to reports from the Times of India, police recovered a sharp-edged weapon believed to have been used by the minor to commit the murders.
The minor informed police that he had planned to carry out the killings on July 7 but initially lacked the courage to proceed.
He had obtained a ‘khurpa’ (a sharp agricultural tool) and ensured it was sharpened in preparation for the act.
After consuming alcohol, he allegedly slit the throats of his sleeping parents and brother around 1 am, then alerted neighbors to his parents’ deaths.
Police, investigating the incident, interviewed neighbors and subsequently took the minor into custody for questioning.
During interrogation, he confessed to the crime. He appeared in a juvenile court on Wednesday, July 10.
