A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and taken into custody after a baby was found dead at a terraced home on a street in central London.

Pictures have revealed the scene of the horrific discovery made by officers called to a property on Taviton Street in Camden, where homes cost up to £3 million, over a ‘concern for welfare’ on Monday afternoon.

A Met Police spokesperson said police were alerted to the incident in the affluent area of the capital shortly after 2pm, with an investigation underway.

Staff from the London Ambulance Service also attended the scene, with the child’s mother now receiving care in hospital.

The child’s age is not yet known.

A Met Police statement confirmed an investigation had been launched.

Detective Chief Inspector Sarb Kaur, leading the investigation, said: ‘This is a very complex and sensitive case.

‘At this early stage, we continue to work alongside the NHS to ensure the mother of the baby receives the necessary care in hospital.
