Ghanaian chef Millennium Chef Smith, who was caught fabricating a Guinness World Record for a marathon cooking session, has issued an apology.
Smith, on Tuesday, July 2, held a press conference at La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra, where he presented a certificate falsely confirming himself as the new world record holder for an 820-hour and 25-minute cook-a-thon, purportedly held from February 1 to March 6, 2024.
During the briefing, Smith stated, “Today is a day I will always remember. I am deeply humbled and honored to stand before you as the Guinness World Record holder.”
Following his announcement and display of the certificate, the chef was subsequently arrested.
Confirming the invalidity of his certificate to BBC, the PR Executive for GWR, Alina Polianskaya, said, “No, this is not true at all. He does not hold the GWR title, and that is not our certificate.
In a newly shared online video, Chef Smith is depicted kneeling alongside two women, tearfully offering apologies for falsifying a Guinness World Record in marathon cooking.
