South Africa: 17-Year-Old Girl Shot Dead

A tragic incident in South Africa has claimed the life of 17-year-old Shanté Adams, who was fatally shot at her friend’s house in Voorbrug, Delft.

The advocacy group Women For Change confirmed the incident on Wednesday, July 3, 2024.

According to their statement, Shanté was spending time with friends when unknown assailants fired shots through the roof of the Wendy’s house where they were gathered on June 30, 2024.

Shanté sustained a gunshot wound to the head and tragically passed away at the scene despite efforts from medical personnel.

Police have initiated a murder investigation, though no arrests have been made thus far. Shanté’s family expressed their devastation, noting that she is the third family member to be innocently killed.

Her uncles, aged 18 and 28, were also fatally shot on the same road in separate incidents in 2019 and 2021. Those cases remain unsolved, leaving Shanté’s family without closure or justice.

Shanté was a grade 10 student at Voorburg Secondary School.
