Journalist Discovered Dead Days After Being Reported Missing In Abuja

An Abuja-based journalist, Joel Waksi, was discovered deceased on Wednesday, June 19, following a five-day period since he was reported missing in Mpape, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Reports indicate that Waksi, an On-Air Personality (OAP) with Atar Communication, the owners of Liberty TV/Radio, had left his office around 9pm on Friday, June 14. He was expected to return to work at the station’s Mpape office by 2pm the next day but did not show up.

Balarabe Muhammad, the Group General Manager (GGM) of Atar Communication, stated in an interview with Daily Trust that the police from Mpape Division in Abuja confirmed finding Waksi’s body near the Panteka neighborhood. His body was subsequently transferred to the morgue at Kubwa General Hospital.

Muhammad mentioned that Waksi had suffered a stab wound to his neck, and his phone was missing. The organization speculated that he may have been attacked by individuals attempting to steal his phone.

Additionally, Muhammad noted that the deceased had previously survived a similar attack two months earlier, during which he was stabbed below the belly.

“He was supposed to be on break till Monday, having worked at night. However, due to internal arrangements among colleagues during such public holidays, he was billed to report back to duty the next day afternoon, but he never did,’’ Muhammad stated.
