Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who recently concluded their successful trip to Nigeria, have apparently conveyed a clear message about their royal status to King Charles, according to an expert.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are demonstrating their desire to define themselves as royals ‘on their own terms,’ as claimed by royal expert Tom Quinn.
In an interview with the Mirror, Quinn suggested that Meghan and Harry’s recent visit to Nigeria shows they do not require King Charles’ approval to function as working royals, as they prefer to do so independently.
Following the King’s refusal to meet Harry when he came to the UK, Meghan and Harry were invited to Nigeria by the country’s highest-ranking military official, Christopher Musa.

According to the expert, the trip left Charles and William “scratching their heads” and thinking of ways to “control this nightmare situation” as Mr Quinn noted: “When you look at what Harry and Meghan got up to on their Nigeria visit it is easy to see why the senior royals are worried. Everything you might expect from an official royal visit was there – the receptions, the visits to schools and charities, to wounded soldiers and the disabled.
“Meghan and Harry’s speeches and their whole attitude has been designed to give the impression that they are still fully paid-up royals and William and his father King Charles don’t like it one bit.
“For Charles and William, it’s as if Meghan and Harry are saying, ‘We don’t need your permission to be working royals – we will do it on our own terms whenever and wherever we like.'”
The expert continued to assert that the monarch was angered by Harry and Meghan’s trip and is exerting all possible efforts to prevent it from happening again, indicating that “King Charles is facing a difficult dilemma – he would like to remove Meghan and Harry’s royal titles, but is concerned this would appear vindictive.”
Tom disclosed that the King might employ “back channels” to attempt to prevent Harry and Meghan from making any future trips to other Commonwealth countries, emphasizing that this has now become the King’s top priority.
