Congratulations are due to King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark, who are observing their 20th wedding anniversary on Tuesday.
Although the royal couple may choose to commemorate the occasion in a private setting, possibly with their four children Crown Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, and twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, Frederik and Mary will be seen in public as they embark on their two-day state visit to Norway.
King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark will have a reunion with King Harald V and Queen Sonja from May 14th to 15th, alongside Norway’s future king, Crown Prince Haakon, and Crown Princess Mette-Marit, who share a cordial relationship with the Danish royals.
Frederik served as Haakon’s best man during his wedding to Mette-Marit in 2001, while Haakon holds the role of godfather to Frederik and Mary’s son, Christian.
On Tuesday morning, the day of their anniversary, Frederik and Mary will sail aboard the Royal Ship Dannebrog and dock at Honnørbryggen in Oslo, where they will receive an official welcome ceremony.
Following this, they will hold a meeting at the royal palace and participate in a wreath-laying service to honor Second World War victims.
Their schedule for the day also includes meetings with the Norwegian president, lunch at the royal palace, and a visit to the Oslo Science City organization. The day will culminate with a state banquet at the palace, where the royal ladies are expected to wear tiaras.
Typically, speeches are given at such events, and undoubtedly, Frederik and Mary’s significant wedding anniversary will be acknowledged.
This marks the couple’s second state visit abroad since Frederik assumed the Danish throne in January, succeeding his mother, Queen Margrethe II. Earlier this month, they visited Sweden, and in June, they will visit the Faroe Islands, which are under Danish sovereignty.
Frederik and Mary exchanged vows on May 14, 2004, at Copenhagen Cathedral. Even before his bride’s arrival, Frederik was spotted wiping away a tear. Mary, a native of Tasmania, looked stunning in an ivory gown designed by Danish designer Uffe Frank.
She paid homage to her Australian roots and new Danish identity by incorporating eucalyptus, a native Australian tree, into her bouquet and wearing a tiara gifted to her by her royal in-laws.
