Sights like fireworks erupt in Glasgow‘s George Square on Tuesday.

Here’s The Gist

The brawl saw combatants hurling street furniture – in a row over ‘abusing’ pigeons.

Footage filmed of the scrap shortly before midday on Tuesday showed a pair of young men squaring off with a third, older man with a beard.

Wearing a large jacket and tracksuit bottoms, the older man yelled at the pair that they were ‘abusing animals’.

‘I didn’t put a hand on you, you f****** c***,’ the lone man then says – as one half of the younger pair, wearing a black jacket, black trousers and white trainers, reaches for a large promotional banner.

Wielding the fluttering flag, for a nearby Greek restaurant, the thug makes to swing at the older man with it.

‘Oh my God,’ a bystander videoing says off-screen as the man pushes away his attacker as the other half of the duo, wearing a blue jacket and jeans, comes rushing in, fists flying.

As the man wielding the banner moves to attack again, the third man throws a punch that appears to connect with his head, sending his baseball cap flying off and the man himself tumbling to the ground.

In the clip, the two younger men were both sent tumbling to the floor after being punched by the other man, who then shouts: “You’re abusing pigeons, you c****”.

The pair then walk away from the scene, leaving bystanders stunned.

Social Media Reacts

Members of the public gathered to social media to react to the incident. One said: ‘Not the first random attack and not the last. It’s getting to be really dangerous just to go about your day in the city centre.’

‘It’s getting worse, nobody is safe anymore,’ another commenter said.

A third said: ‘It’s shocking, you don’t feel safe in town now.’
