Why Prince William Didn't Bow To Queen Camilla At Commonwealth Day Service

At the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey on Monday, the Prince of Wales warmly greeted his stepmother, Queen Camilla, with kisses on both cheeks. In contrast to his uncle, the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince William did not seem to bow to Her Majesty as the royals gathered to proceed down the aisle to their seats.

However, there’s a logical explanation for William’s lack of a bow to the Queen. Typically, if a member of the royal family is not observed bowing or curtseying to the King or Queen, it’s because they have already exchanged greetings earlier that day.

Prior to the national anthem playing, the Queen and the Prince of Wales were seen conversing and smiling together. They led the royal family in the absence of the King and the Princess of Wales from the service.

A pre-recorded message from the monarch was played during the ceremony, in which Charles said he has “been most deeply touched by your wonderfully kind and thoughtful good wishes for my health and, in return, can only continue to serve you, to the best of my ability, throughout the Commonwealth”.

The King has deferred the majority of his public engagements as he undergoes cancer treatment but remains engaged in his daily administrative responsibilities within palace confines.

Princess Kate is anticipated to resume her official duties post-Easter as she recuperates from abdominal surgery.

In celebration of Mother’s Day on Sunday, Kensington Palace unveiled the inaugural photograph of Kate and her children—ten-year-old Prince George, eight-year-old Princess Charlotte, and five-year-old Prince Louis—captured by William at their Windsor residence.

However, the Princess publicly apologised for editing the family photograph as it was pulled by news agencies over claims it had been “manipulated”.

Kate said in a statement shared on social media: “Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day. C.”
