Cate Blanchett has revealed why she lost faith in religion following the death of her father Robert.

She Turned to Church …

The Australian actress, 54, who was just 10-years-old when her father died of a heart attack, turned to religion in the hope it would bring her closer to him.

… Then Fled Church

But when she soon realised it wouldn’t happen, Cate fled church and spent her childhood within nature.

Giving her interview, she said: ‘As a child I wanted a religion. I wanted the strong hand of God to put a hand on my childish shoulders to say “your father is with me. He’s having fun. You’ll see him in 60 years”.’

‘But that didn’t happen. And so as a ten-year-old I fled from the church and moved down to the river and spent my childhood propelled into nature.

‘If I’d stayed inside the Methodist church I’d have a lot of bad guitar playing, but instead I rode my bike, thinking I was Nancy Drew, down by the Yarra River.’

Her late father married her mother June share Cate as well as a younger brother and a younger sister.

While the loss of her father caused greater heartbreak, Cate’s primary school teacher previously admitted it instilled a ‘fierce work ethic and burning sense of responsibility in her’.

Her admission comes after she dismissed rumours around the status of her marriage as she stepped out with husband Andrew Upton in London on Thursday.

The couple looked in good spirits as they attended a special event launching her role as creative director of alcohol brand Toku Saké.
