Teen, 18, was SHOT to death while getting off school bus

A Louisiana high school student was fatally shot while getting off a school bus last week, according to reports.

How it Happened

Jaylin Joiner, an 18-year-old high school student at Carencro High School, was shot while exiting his school bus, police said.

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office told KATC-TV that officers responded to a report of a shooting that occurred shortly after 3 p.m. on Friday, March 1, and when they arrived on the scene they found Jaylin with a gunshot wound.

He was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to the outlet, and later died from his injuries.

1 Person And More to be Arrested

Malikai Doucet, 19, was arrested on a charge of second-degree murder in connection with the shooting, and his bond was set at $35,000, police said.

Police have not discussed a motive and have said that more arrests are expected.

It’s not immediately clear if Doucet has retained an attorney or entered a plea.

Tribute

On Monday, a candlelight vigil was held in memory of Jaylin by several members of the community and lawmakers. Carencro Mayor Charlotte Clavier described the incident as ‘very shocking to the community.’
