Seven police officers face misconduct probe over HORROR Cardiff crash which claimed three young lives

Seven police officers are being investigated over the handling of a horror car crash that led to the deaths of three young people.

The Gwent Police officers are being investigated over the handling of missing person reports, how they dealt with family members, how searches were carried out and for alleged remarks made at the scene of the crash.

Also, one officer is under criminal investigation for allegedly falsifying their witness statement, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said.

Dead Victims Revealed

Eve Smith, 21, and Darcy Ross, 21, both of Newport, and Rafel Jeanne, 24, of Cardiff, were found dead on March 6 last year after the car they were travelling in crashed near the St Mellons area of Cardiff.

But Sophie Russon, 20, from Newport, and Shane Loughlin, 32, from Cardiff, survived the crash.

The Volkswagen Tiguan was found shortly after midnight in a wooded area off the A48 nearly two days after any of the group had been heard from.

Relatives of those who died had reported each of them missing on March 4. The group were last seen in the Pentwyn area of the city.

Investigation is Going on

The IOPC has confirmed that it has served notices to seven Gwent Police officers advising them that they are under investigation.

They said its investigation was at an ‘advanced stage’ and that it had gathered and analysed a ‘significant amount of evidence’.

The IOPC received detailed complaints made by the families of the young people involved in the crash.
