The young woman crushed to death by a falling tree in Adelaide has been identified as an international student from Indonesia with a love of cycling.
How it Happened
Alifia Soeryo, 22, was sitting under a gum tree at the University of Adelaide’s soccer ground on War Memorial Drive when part of the trunk collapsed about 2.30pm on Wednesday.
Emergency services attempted to revive Ms Soeryo – known by the nickname Fia – but she could not be saved.
Tributes From Here and There
The freak accident victim’s Instagram profile has been flooded with hundreds of tributes from friends – many of whom were in total disbelief.
‘I’ll miss your random replies to my (Instagram) story, I’ll miss your sweetest words and support, I’ll miss you forever Fi’,’ one mate said.
Mum Misses Daughter
Ms Soeryo’s mother also took to social media to post in her native Indonesian language, calling her a ‘good child’ who took ‘care of mum and dad’.
‘You’re in a good place next to Allah now,’ she wrote.Â
Ms Soeryo, who arrived in Adelaide to study just a year ago, was remembered by friends as a huge Taylor Swift fan.
‘Rest in love, fellow Swiftie’, one friend commented.

About Soeryo
Ms Soeryo was also a keen road cyclist, logging 175 rides on the popular sporting social media app, Strava, and often shared videos of herself riding with friends on country roads on the outskirts of Adelaide.
She also often posed alongside her beloved BMW 3 Series.
‘Your smile, your soul including your lovely Stuwee (BMW E46) always be in our heart,’ wrote one friend.
‘We always love you.’
Another said: ‘Rest in peace Fia! Till we cruise again up there with our Bimmers (BMWs)! Watch over us will you?’
