CHILD HEALTH – A man has been arrested in Devon on suspicion of child neglect following the death of a nine-year-boy.
Police Intervention
Devon and Cornwall Police were called to Glenmore Road in Brixham, Devon, at 6.20pm on Sunday January 28 following a report that a man had been seen walking with a child who looked unwell.
The child was located at a nearby address where emergency first aid was given before he was taken to hospital. Tragically, the boy was later confirmed dead at the hospital. His family have been informed.
Cause of Death
The nine-year-old’s death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing.
Police have arrested a 47-year-old man on suspicion of child neglect and as of writing he remains in custody.
Statement From Police
In a statement, Detective Inspector Jen Rose said: ‘I’m appealing to hear from for anyone who was in Drew Street, Penn Lane, Castor Road, Greenswood Road and Bolton Street between 5pm and 7pm and may have witnessed the incident.
‘We believe that there were members of the public who attempted to speak to the man and child.
‘I’d urge anyone who hasn’t yet spoken to police, anyone who has footage of any kind, including dashcam, mobile phone and doorbell footage to please get in touch.’
