ASSAULT – A wedding DJ has been warned in court that he faces jailtime for urinating on a cancer patient.

Leigh Brookfield, 40 from Llanelli, was stood next to Peter Barton, who has cancer, in the toilets of Llanelli tennis club when he filmed himself performing the vile stunt.

Mr Barton was telling Brookfield of his prostate problems when the DJ turned to the older man to urinate on his back.

He Posted the Assault

Brookfield then posted the footage of the vile stunt on Snapchat on Boxing Day in 2023.

He was due to be sentenced today, Wednesday January 24, for common assault over the foul attack on Mr Barton.

But Llanelli Magistrates Court heard that Brookfield had changed his lawyers before the hearing and could not find a replacement in time.

What Will Happen Next?

A judge told Mr Barton to return to court tomorrow, Thursday January 25, where he could be handed a jail sentence.

District Judge Mark Layton asked three other solicitors in court if they would represent Brookfield but all declined.

Judge Layton said: ‘I’ll adjourn to tomorrow but please understand I will not be adjourning it further.

‘The advice I’m sure you’ve had is you can expect an immediate custodial sentence.’

He was Banished

Llanelli Tennis and Squash Club said it had banned Brookfield for life and described Mr Barton as a ‘valued member of our club’.

‘He was understandably upset about this incident as he has recently had treatment for cancer.

‘We are a family friendly club and are devastated that our name has been bought into this despicable act by a person who has no association with the club and through no fault of our own.’

He Learnt About What he Did Later

In a previous court hearing on December 29 2023, prosecutor Lucy Mansfield said Mr Barton only learned later that he had been urinated on.

She said: ‘The defendant entered the toilets and has spoken to the complainant and the complainant explained that he has recently received a prostate cancer diagnosis.

‘Whilst this was happening the defendant proceeded to urinate on the complainant and while this was occurring video was posted online.’

Miss Mansfield played the Snapchat footage to the court and said: ‘At the time the complainant did not realise he was being urinated.’

People Refused His Apology

The DJ, who performs in bars and at weddings around Llanelli, posted an apology on Facebook before deleting his account.

He wrote: ‘I’m apologising to you all regarding my actions this evening. I’m deeply sorry for those who I have offended and if I could take it all back I would.

‘It’s just something me and the boys do when we are drunk and until watching the video back I didn’t realise that the nice gentleman next to me was going through health problems.’

But his apology was blasted by viewers of the video with one woman saying she no longer wanted him to DJ at her engagement party.

The court also heard that Brookfield had previous offences for crimes committed while drunk.
