FG Forced To Declare State Of Emergency

The FCT Commissioner for Public Complaint Commission, Dalhatu Ezekiel, has called on the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency on security in the territory.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja yesterday, he said the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, was not properly briefed by those saddled with the responsibility of securing the territory.

Dalhatu said that the spate of attacks on the FCT had risen to an all-time high.

He said what appeared to be like communal clashes among remote communities and herders had degenerated into a full business by miscreants.

He said the commission, under his office, had received many complaints from individuals and groups, including the Abuja Original Inhabitants Youths Empowerment Organisation, over in-cessant cases of killings and abductions by bandits.

He raised the alarm that the worsening insecurity in the FCT was threatening peace and businesses in the territory.

He said residents of communities in Abaji, Kwali, Gwagwalada, Kuje and Bwari area councils were living in fear due to incessant cases of banditry and kidnapping, especially in Bwari and Ku-je Area Councils.

Meanwhile, Daily Trust learnt that ban-dits on Saturday kidnapped 16 per-sons, including nursing mothers, from a farm at Agwe village in Kuje Area Council.

A resident, Danjuma Sarki, who con-firmed the incident to Daily Trust, how-ever, said four of the abductees were released Sunday afternoon.

A traditional ruler in the area, who preferred anonymity, also confirmed the incident, adding that “But as of this morning, I learnt that four or five people who are women were released by their abductors on Sunday.”
