The CEO of AirAsia raised eyebrows after posting a photo of himself getting a massage shirtless during a high-powered board meeting.
Tony Fernandes, the boss of the Malaysian low-cost airline, uploaded the image to professional social media platform LinkedIn last week – sparking uproar.
Mr Fernandes complained of feeling ‘sore’ after a flight and said one of his employees, AirAsia Indonesia boss Veranita Yosephine, suggested he get a body rub.
The LinkedIn post
‘Got to love Indonesia and AirAsia culture that I can have a massage and do a management meeting,’ he said.
The image of Mr Fernandes was relentlessly mocked on the normally staid workplace social media platform.
One LinkedIn user wrote that Mr Fernandes’ actions were ‘inappropriate and absurd’.
A second professional networker described the image as ‘unprofessional’, adding: ‘He should be setting an example of good work ethics and culture, not flaunting his body and privilege.

‘Some CEOs need to stay off LinkedIn,’ said a third. The public uproar didn’t stop at the hundreds of comments on LinkedIn, with more coming from X, formerly Twitter, after a screenshot of the post was posted to the social media.
‘Nothing says “power” like taking a Zoom call to close that deal whilst naked to the waist being massaged by a lady in a hazmat suit,’ one X user joked.
‘Last time I went to a board meeting dressed like that I was up in front of HR,’ a second wrote.
Other users were perplexed as to why the CEO found the need to post the ‘strange’ image, with one user questioning ‘is this satire?’
