One of the aircraft in the fleet of United Nigeria Airlines has skidded off the Runway 18 Left of the Murtala Muhammed Airport due to a heavy downpour experienced in Lagos.
The aircraft marked NUA 058 was said to be arriving in Lagos from Owerri when it overshot the runway by about 200 metres due to a wet runway.
However, no casualty was recorded.
The cause of the incident apart from the wet runway remained unknown while about 55 passengers were being evacuated at the time of filing this report.
The incident happened at about 07:35 pm hours during the heavy downpour.
Rescue operations began immediately with the arrival of officials from Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting Service (ARFFS) of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and other relevant agencies.
