Huw Edwards is facing fresh allegations of ‘inappropriate behaviour’ towards junior BBC staff, it has been reported.

The newsreader was named by his wife Wednesday evening as the man at the centre of allegations over payments for sexually explicit images.

The revelation came just moments after the Metropolitan Police confirmed that no criminal offence had been committed following a review of the accusations.

In the hours since, three people who have worked at the BBC have come forward with new claims regarding messages they had received from the star.

One current employee said they had been sent inappropriate and suggestive messages from Mr Edwards, while two former members of staff said they had also received texts which made them feel uncomfortable.

Detailing the new allegations, Lucy Manning, special correspondent at BBC News, said: ‘A current BBC employee said this year they had received suggestive messages on social media from the presenter.

‘BBC News has seen the messages which refer to the BBC staff member’s appearance and they are flirtatious.’

She explained that this same employee now wants managers to take a more ‘proactive’ approach towards younger staff who work with the presenter and ‘address who senior and junior members of staff interact with’.

Lucy said this person has not submitted a formal complaint because they wished to remain anonymous – but ‘might consider it’.

She added: ‘Another BBC worker and a former one have also told Newsnight they received what they perceived to be more inappropriate social media messages from the presenter that made them feel uncomfortable.’

Wife Vicky Flind said in her statement tonight that Huw was ‘being treated in hospital for serious mental health issues’ and will be receiving care ‘for the foreseeable future’.
