Khmelnytskyi Rocked By Huge Explosion Which 'Injured 30 People' – Authorities Investigate

The tests were carried out after a huge explosion caused by an attack of Shahed flying bombs hit the city on May 13, sending a massive fireball and mushroom cloud high into the air over the city.

Experts from the Department of the Khmelnytskyi Oblast Control and Prevention Center of the Ministry of Health conducted thorough assessments of harmful substances in the air, water quality, soil conditions, and radiation levels.

According to a statement released by the press service of the Khmelnytskyi Oblast Military Administration (OVA) on May 16, all measured parameters were found to be within acceptable limits.

The authorities said the monitoring of radiation levels and drinking water quality is routine practice.

“Following the terrorist attack on May 13, 2023, the institution’s experts conducted investigations into the presence of harmful substances in the air, examined water and soil quality, and analyzed radiation levels.

The laboratory tests revealed that the concentration of harmful substances in the ambient air within the sanitary protection zones did not exceed permissible values,” the OVA reported.

Furthermore, the comprehensive analysis conducted on water, soil, and radiation levels indicated that they all remained well within acceptable parameters.

“Therefore, we can confidently affirm that there is no immediate threat to the lives of the population,” concluded the administration.

Russian forces carried out a Shahed drone attack on Ukraine on May 13. Out of the total number of 21 drones used, four targeted a crucial infrastructure object in Khmelnytskyi Oblast, while the remaining 17 were shot down by Ukrainian air defense systems, the Ukrainian Air Force reported.

However, the explosion in Khmelnytskyi caused damage to residential and other buildings, with a total of 30 people being injured.
