King Charles’ coronation will take place next month, and his grandson, Prince George, who is the future heir to the throne, is set to play a major role in the proceedings.
George will be one of the Pages of Honour at the ceremony, alongside other children of family friends and some of Queen Consort Camilla’s grandchildren. The pages will carry the long trains of the King and Queen Consort’s ceremonial robes and will form part of the procession through the nave of Westminster Abbey.
Traditionally they wear a scarlet frock coat with gold trimmings over a white satin waistcoat, breeches and hose, white gloves, black buckled shoes and a lace cravat and ruffles.
Pages of Honour also take part in other royal events, including the State Opening of Parliament and the Order of the Garter Ceremony.
Traditionally, Pages of Honours for these events aren’t actually members of the royal family, and are instead the children of nobility.
Although George has been given this significant role, other Princes such as Prince Louis and Prince Archie have not been given the distinction.
This is likely due to their young ages, as Pages of Honours are usually in their teens when they take on the role, although some of Charles and Camilla’s for the coronation are younger.
Royal fans have not minded the break in tradition, with many supporting George’s role as they commented on a new photo of the King and Queen Consort in the build-up to the ceremony.
“Love this new picture and that Prince George will have a big role on this very important day! I can’t wait,” wrote one Instagram follower.
“Lovely that George gets to take part in the procession,” another agreed. A third said: “Such a beautiful portrait and wonderful news about the Pages of Honour.”Â
