Could King Charles And Queen Consort Camilla Break With Late Queen's Tradition This Spring

The late Queen Elizabeth II always celebrated the holiday at Windsor Castle, and we’ve seen extended members of her family join her at the church service at St George’s Chapel on Easter Sunday over the years, including the Prince and Princess of Wales.

Charles and Camilla typically spend Easter at Birkhall, so could they break with the late Queen’s tradition, and host the royals in Scotland instead?

The couple have previously attended an Easter Sunday service at Crathie Kirk church, which is close to Balmoral Castle, and is where Princess Anne married her second husband, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, in 1992.

Queen Elizabeth II traditionally spent her summer break at her beloved Scottish residence, Balmoral, and Christmas at Sandringham in Norfolk. In the last few years of her life and during the pandemic, she mainly resided at Windsor Castle.

It’s not known whether the King and Queen Consort will follow a similar routine in the future, but Charles did uphold the tradition of celebrating the festive period at Sandringham last year.

The couple’s main residence is at Clarence House in London, but Charles often retreats to his Gloucestershire abode, Highgrove. Camilla also has a private home – Ray Mill House â€“ in Wiltshire, which she purchased in the mid-1990s after her divorce from Andrew Parker Bowles.

While the King and Queen Consort’s plans for Easter Sunday are yet to be confirmed by Buckingham Palace, Charles and Camilla will attend the Royal Maundy Service in York Minster on 6 April, where the King will distribute the Maundy money.
