Three children and three adults have been killed in a school shooting at the Covenant School, a private Christian school in Nashville, Tennesee, USA.

A 28-year-old from Nashville fatally shot three children and three adults on Monday at a private Christian elementary school, officials said, leaving behind writings and detailed maps of the school and its security protocols.

The Fire department rushed to the scene on Monday, March 27 and the shooter, who opened fire at the Covenant School, Covenant Presbyterian Church, was also killed, police said in a statement.

Local authorities have named the three child victims and the three adults killed.

The shooter, Audrey Elizabeth Hale, was shot dead by police after a confrontation with officers following the gun attack at the Covenant School in Nashville Tennessee, where the killer was a former student.

Evelyn Dieckhaus, William Kinney, and Hallie Scruggs were all aged nine.

Mike Hill, a janitor, and Cynthia Peak were 61, and Katherine Koonce, the school’s headteacher was 60.

Metro Nashville Police Department said in a post on Twitter: ‘An active shooter event has taken place at Covenant School, Covenant Presbyterian Church, on Burton Hills Dr.

Mayoral candidate Freddie O’Connell said: ‘Nashville has, sadly, today joined the communities that have experienced a school shooting.

‘The shooter was engaged by MNPD and is dead. Student reunification with parents is at Woodmont Baptist Church, 2100 Woodmont Blvd.’

The Nashville Fire Department also alerted residents via Twitter: ‘We are responding to an active aggressor at 33 Burton Hills Blvd Covenant School.

‘We can confirm we have multiple patients. Parents coming to the school should go to 20 Burton Hills at this time. This is an active scene.’

The attack took place at Covenant School in Nashville Tennessee, where the killer was a former student.

A spokesperson from the Vanderbilt University Medical Center confirmed that three pediatric patients were transported to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, all having suffered gunshot wounds.

All three were pronounced dead by the hospital after arrival.

As police were responding to the attack, students were led out of the school in a line, each with their hands on the shoulders of the person in front of them.

‘For now, my focus is turning to supporting the impacted families and revisiting our efforts to prevent these horrifying scenarios.’

About 200 students from preschool through sixth grade attend the Covenant School.

Footage shows Hale arriving at school in a car, shooting down the glass front doors with an assault rifle and stepping through, and prowling the corridors. The shooter also had a 9mm pistol, police added.

Detectives believe Hale had ‘some resentment for having to go to that school,’ police added.

A search of Hale’s home found a sawn-off shotgun, a second shotgun and other unspecified evidence.

The school said on Monday night: ‘Our community is heartbroken.

‘We are grieving tremendous loss and are in shock coming out of the terror that shattered our school and church.

‘We are focused on loving our students, our families, our faculty and staff and beginning the process of healing.’
