A hero dog reportedly saved his family’s one-year-old Chantal, who was trapped in her playpen on the second story from their burning house on Beniteau Street on Detroit’s East Side, February 21st.

Blue the Pitbull-Lab-mix refused to leave the burning house until his owner’s one-year-old daughter had been saved, remaining by her side until help arrived.

The blaze had allegedly broke out in the unit below the multi-family home where they lived last month after a child was allegedly playing with a lighter in their bedroom and accidentally set their mattress on fire.

As the complex went up in flames, Janet Kelly’s daughter was trapped inside in a playpen with their 4-year-old rescue dog.

The fire ravaged the home located on Beniteau Street in Detroit’s Eastside neighborhood

The mother of four told Detroit Free Press that when firefighters arrived, hero Blue ‘alerted rescue to where she was located.’

‘(Blue) is very protective over all of us,’ she said. ‘He also loves his best friend Smokey, the family cat.

‘When the fire broke out, Kelly and her fiancé were at Walmart with her two oldest children, aged 7 and 9.

‘I got a phone call that the house was on fire. My fiancé’s brother was at the home and he’s the one that called,’ she said.

‘He was trying to rush and get the dog, the kids, and everybody out of the house.’

When the tenants ran to tell the families in the unit to flee –the home had already burnt to the ground. Fortunately, no one was injured, but Kelly had lost everything.

The family are now living in a minivan following the house fire and claim they are struggling to get any help with their situation.

A GoFundMe page has been set up by Janet who wrote: ‘Unfortunately we have to turn to GoFund me because we have lost everything.’
