Finnish police release Simon Ekpa, pro-Biafran agitator, hours after questioning

Finland authorities on Thursday arrested Simon Ekpa, a popular pro-Biafra separatist agitator and self-acclaimed disciple of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), in Finland.

The controversial disciple of Nnamdi Kanu has now been released by the police in Finland.

The Pro-Biafra separatist agitator was released by Finnish authorities hours after he was arrested and grilled.

Ekpa was released after a few hours of questioning, though investigation is ongoing.

Earlier Thursday, February 23, Finnish police escorted Ekpa out of his apartment in Lahti.

He was later released on Thursday evening and took to Twitter to share a post after his release.

Although Tommi Reen, an officer with the Central Criminal Police, did not state the identity of the suspect in custody, he confirmed the raid to HS.

Reen, however, said the suspect was released after a few hours of questioning, adding that investigation is ongoing.

Recently, Ekpa declared that there will be no elections in the south-east zone of Nigeria.

‘The person being questioned today is suspected of a crime. We will return to the title on Friday,’ Tommi Reen from the Central Criminal Police told HS during a phone interview.

Aside from the threat to elections, the Finland-based Nigerian also insisted that people of the south-east region must observe sit-at-home every Monday to protest the detention of Kanu.

Before his eventual arrest on Thursday, Nigerians all over the world have signed a petition appealing to the Finnish government, Nigerian Government and the European Union to arrest Ekpa, the brain behind the sit-at-home order in the South-East.
