Just after the series of earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, which has claimed more than 4,000 lives, a miracle baby was found by the rescuers under the rubble.
Footage shows the miracle newborn being carried to safety in the arms of a rescuer in Jenderes, after she was found still tied to her mother by the umbilical cord.
But while the little girl survived the ordeal, her mother is thought to have tragically died after giving birth.
The infant is the sole survivor of her immediate family, the rest of whom were all killed when the 7.8-magnitude quake that struck Syria and neighbouring Turkey flattened the family home in the rebel-held town.
The baby girl, who was born while her mother was buried underneath the rubble of a five-story apartment building, has wounds on her back from the rubble she was buried under.
The video was shared by Hoshang Hassan, Journalist, SME in Syrian and Kurdish affairs.
‘A baby was born while his mother was being rescued from the rubble as a result of the earthquake that occurred today,’ Hassan has tweeted.
‘CANT GET THIS IMAGE/VIDEO OF A NEW BORN BABY FOUND IN THE RUBBLE IN TURKEY OUT OF MY HEAD! My heartaches by this tragic earthquake,’ writes one Twitter user.
The baby was rescued in Afrin, Syria as per the information available on social media.
Dr. Hani Maarouf, who is caring for the girl at the children’s hospital where she was taken, emphasized the close timing of the rescue.
‘Had the girl been left for an hour more, she would have died,’ he said.
The baby girl was reportedly found in front of her mother’s legs.
The baby was estimated to have been born several hours before she was rescued based on her low body temperature.
She would not have been able to survive as long if she was born prior to the earthquake, Maarouf said, so her mother must have given birth to her after being trapped under the rubble for hours.
