Buckingham Palace was silent tonight after an onslaught of explosive excerpts from Prince Harry’s autobiography, Spare, which appear to have cast a negative light on almost every member of the royal family.
The Duke of Sussex’s telltale memoir was due for release next week but was accidentally published in Spain on Wednesday in an apparent public relations disaster for publisher Penguin Random House.
It led to coverage of extraordinary passages that have exposed the internal tensions that continue to plague the royal household. According to the Chron, palace staff is frantically digesting the content of the more than 570-page diatribe.
Perhaps the most damaging report is that of an alleged physical altercation between William and Harry when they began fighting over his wife Meghan Markle on the eve of Megxit in 2019.
William is said to have branded Meghan “difficult”, “rude” and “abrasive” and insisted he was trying to help his younger brother during a meeting about “the whole rolling disaster” of their failed relationship and Harry’s run-ins with the press.
Harry accused his brother of parroting “the press narrative” about his American wife before a screaming fight that ended in a physical altercation, the book says.
He says he gave the heir to the throne a glass of water and said, “Willy, I can’t talk to you when you’re like this.”
Describing what he thought happened next, the former soldier insisted he was scared, saying: “He turned off the water, called me another name and then approached me. Everything happened so fast. So very quickly.
“He grabbed my collar, tore my necklace and threw me to the ground. I landed on the dog’s bowl, which broke under my back and the pieces cut into me. I lay there dazed for a moment, then got up and told him to go away.”
